Summary

Explore the scenic and diverse scenery of two regions: Brittany and Normandy during this enthralling, 8-day cycling tour. Start your cycling holiday in Saint-Malo, a historic walled city in Brittany. Your cycling tour will end in Bayeux, home of the Bayeaux Tapestry, an 11th centrury tapestry featuring the events of the Norman invasion of England.

Itinerary

Day 1, Arrive in Saint Malo
Arrive in Saint Malo. The town is easily accessible from Paris by TGV. You stay in a beautiful hotel in the center of Saint Malo. Orientation in the evening and dinner on your own.

To visit in Saint Malo: the walled city, the chateau of Saint-Malo with the Solidor Tower of Saint-Servan.

Day 2, Saint Malo to Mont Saint Michel (34 mi or 54 km)
Cycle from Saint Malo towards Cancale. Here you reach the coast and see all the oyster farms that make Cancale famous. You ride through the fisherman village of Saint Benoit des Ondes, as well as the Mont Dol, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view. On a clear day from here you can also see the Mont Saint Michel - Unesco World Heritage site and architectural marvel. Once there, you will stay in a beautiful hotel. Leave time to explore the Mont and walk around its tiny streets!

Dinner on your own. Breakfast included.

Day 3, Cycle Around the Bay of Mont Saint Michel to Granville (38 mi or 61 km)
Ride along the cost in the Bay of Mont Saint Michel to Avranches. There are several worthwhile sites to visit this town dating back to the Roman era. Continue on the coast to Granville and stay in a nice hotel overlooking the beach. Dinner on your own. Breakfast included.

Day 4, Ride to Saint Lo (39 mi or 62 km)
Cut across the Normandy countryside to reach the Landing Beaches. You will stop in St Lo today. Along the way you will pass the town of Coutances where you must stop to visit the Cathedral of Coutances, which is visible from the surrounding villages. In St Lo you stay in a very nice hotel with dinner on your own. In St Lo you will find a virtually newly rebuilt city. The town was almost totally destroyed during the Battle of Normandy as it lies on an important crossroads and was a German stronghold. The city is however rich in history and WWII is part of it. Breakfast included.

Day 5, Ride to Saint Marie du Mont via Sainte Mere Eglise (37 mi or 59 km)
This ride is mostly flat to rolling coming up to the Normandy coast where the D-Day landings took place. Sainte Mere Eglise is an old settlement dating back to the 12th century, but it is most famous for its role during the Allied landing. Paratroopers famously landed here and fought some decisive battles that made this town the first one to be liberated. The movie "The Longest Day" depicts many events in Sainte Mere Eglise. Your hotel is nearby in Sainte Marie du Mont. Dinner and breakfast included.

Day 6, Loop ride to Utah Beach (32 mi or 52 km)
A loop tour from your hotel will first focus on Utah Beach close to your hotel, then move North along the coast to Saint Vaast. Return by the inland or by the same route. You can also opt for a shorter ride and take some time to visit Sainte Mere Eglise. Stay at the same hotel with dinner and breakfast included.

Day 7, Ride to Bayeux (44 mi or 70 km)
A slightly longer route, you need to leave early to have enough time to stop at the different sites along your itinerary. We suggest you to ride all the way to the Point du Hoc, immortalized in The Longest Day, and then leave time to visit the most famous WWII sites in the area: Colleville-sur-Mer and Omaha beach. Once in Colleville, take some time to visit the US Military cemetery, (172.5 acres). Continue to Bayeux and your excellent hotel, dinner and breakfast included.

Day 8, Departure Day
Departure at your leisure after breakfast. Breakfast included.
