Itinerary

At 9:00 AM, meet your guide at the tourist office in Aix-en-Provence. Our 8 passengers minivan has air conditioning and comfortable seats. Around 10 am, sightseeing of the historic centre of Avignon, capital of Christendom in the 14th: Popes’ Palace, town and ramparts, and famous bridge.

This impressive and austere looking fortress, built in less than twenty years by two popes, is the symbol of the Church's importance in the Christian Western world in the 14th century. With 15,000 square meters of living space, the equivalent of 4 Gothic cathedrals, it is the biggest gothic palace in the world. You can visit 20 rooms and discover amazing Italian frecoes. The Popes ‘Palace, with 600 000 visitors per year, is part of the 10 most visited monuments in France.

Tour and wine tasting in Châteauneuf du Pape Châteauneuf du PapeIn the XIVth century, the Popes chose Châteauneuf to build their summer residence. They planted the first vineyard there in the rocky soil that surrounded their estate. Today 18 varieties of grapes can be used to produce this sunshine and full bodied wine, such as Cinsaut, Grenache noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah.

Lunch at Le Verger des Papes. The Verger des Papes stands on top of the village just underneath the castle - former summer residence of the Popes. In the shade of the Pine trees and in the magical provençal atmosphere hearing the cicadas, the terrace of the restaurant dominates the vineyards and offers an exceptional view on the Mount Ventoux and the city of Avignon.

Sightseeing in the Alpilles national park. Les Alpilles national park, rocky mountains with olive tree groves and vineyard, is punctuated by quaint lovely villages such as Saint Rémy de Provence and les Baux de Provence. This is Van Gogh’s Provence, with wild Iris, sunflower and lavender fields, olive oil and local honey.

Guided tour of the Pont du Gard, listed in the World Heritage by UNESCO. This monumental bridge, former Roman aqueduct, set in an environment of rare beauty, would provide an incredible amount of water to the population, baths and public fountains of Nimes.

Guided tour of soap factory Marius Fabre. In 1900, Marius Fabre founded his soap company in Salon de Provence. Today, the fourth generation of his family is carrying on the tradition of real Marseilles soap with the same passion. At the dawn of the 21st century, consumers are rediscovering the virtues of this natural and environment friendly product, an alternative to chemical and petroleum based products.

Drop off at Aix en Provence Tourist Office at 6:00 pm. End of the tour.
