Summary

Cap Corse is a peninsula in the northeastern part of Corsica. It is a 40 kilometre long and 10 kilometre wide headland with stunning coastline and beautiful beaches.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bastia

Arrival in Bastia at leisure and enjoy a welcome aperitif.

Day 2: Bastia 17 km 35 min

Bastia is a modest little port which has become one of the cultural jewels of the island. After visiting the museum in the heart of the Governor’s palace, you can amble through the old neighbourhoods and alleyways of time gone by, from Terra Vecchia to Terra Nova, from the heart of the old town to the colourful little houses huddled together in the old port.

In the afternoon, a self-guided walk will take you through hamlets in the Sisco valley. Along the way, you will catch glimpses of some so-called ‘American’ luxury villas, of ancient towers and a convent. The lush and refreshing vegetation will envelop you and you will be lulled by the burbling sounds of the river. The path takes you through villages where the roofs are covered in the traditional schist (teghe/Lauze) tiles whose colour is in keeping with the blues and greens of the surrounding countryside. Night in Erbalunga.

Day 3: The Cap Corse 110 km – 2h40

Departure towards the north of the Cap Corse. Your journey on the coastal road is punctuated with stops to enjoy the first landscapes of Corsica with Genoese towers, its fishing ports like Erbalunga and Centuri still offering a very nice setting for a lunch and enjoy fish and lobster. Some small beaches beckon for bathing if expected! On arrival at the Nonza village, park and head towards the Paoline tower to admire the view of the Gulf of Saint Florent, and below the tower, its black sand beach!
Your first step is located close to St. Florent in the heart of the terroirs of Corsica, Patrimonio renowned for its vineyards. Night in Saint Florent.

DAY 4: Patrimonio / Lumio 108 km 2:30

You cross the micro-region of Agriates, to join the Balagne reghion called "the garden of Corsica" and the seaside resort of Ile Rousse, founded during the independence of Pascal Paoli, and enjoy its relaxed lifestyle with its market, narrow streets ... Your journey continues discovering balanin hinterland and the very beautiful medieval villages in stones, Pigna and its artisans, as well Sant'Antonino who provides outstanding and contrasting views on the Mediterranean and the Corsica mountains. We recommend that you discover the products of the locality: Wine Balagne canistrellis, or olive oil mill of Montegrosso. By Calenzana, place of departure of the very difficult course of the GR20, you reach the coast and Lumio that one scenic jewels of Corsica. Overnight in Lumio

DAY 5: Lumio / Calvi / Porto

90 km - 2h00

KM-133 2h50 (OPTION EVISA)

Your morning takes you to the city of Calvi, seaside resort and the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. Discover the beautiful citadel stroll through its narrow streets and admire the view of the Ligurian Sea and the mountains of Balagne. Your trip then switches on the west coast, with beautiful unspoiled landscapes that give Corsica, the nickname of “a mountain in the sea”. Your day's stage ends in Porto, and its square Genoese tower that boasts to be near the most beautiful sites of Corsica. Depending on your time, you can go up the gorges of the Spelunca to the authentic village of Evisa, and chestnut forest at the base of regional recipes. Overnight in Porto.

Day 6: Porto / Cargèse / Ajaccio 80 km - 2H00

This day will highlight the natural beauty of the landscapes of the island. Porto, Scandola Reserve a UNESCO heritage site, is visited by a boat trip with a stop in the village of Girolata, a little gem accessible only by sea or on foot. In return, you will join Ajaccio by the coast through the most beautiful site of Corsica, the Calanche of Piana, a spectacle of rock with reddish hues and spectacular morphologies associated with maritime pines. You cross the pretty village of Cargèse overhanging the sea and walk along great beaches inviting to swimming or relaxing break! You get to the Imperial city, Ajaccio for your day's stage. Night in Ajaccio.
