Meeting Point: From your hotel in Paris

Itinerary

Day 1

After a 3-hour drive along the South highway, you will arrive in the medieval town of Vézelay, known as the “Eternal Hill”, famous for its Romanesque basilica, classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site. With your private guide, you will visit and learn the history of this monument, where Saint Bernard preached the second crusade in 1146.

Then you will go to the garden behind the basilica where you will enjoy the marvelous view over the Morvan’s region, before walking around the narrow medieval streets of the village, still accompanied by your private guide.

Once you have arrived at the bottom of the hill, he will recommend a restaurant (not included in the price).

After lunch, you will head to Beaune, a small city surrounded by the world-renowned vineyards of Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits.

Once you have arrived, you will really start your wine tour with the visit of The Caves Patriarche. A local guide will show you the vaulted cellars from the 13th and 14th century, explaining the work done there. This visit ends with a tasting of several wines produced in the region.

At 5:00 pm, your guide will drop you off at your hotel in Beaune.

Day 2
Your second day starts with the visit of the most beautiful building of Beaune: l’Hôtel-Dieu, also called Hospices de Beaune. This former hospital was founded in the mid-15th century by Nicolas Rolin to cure the poor people of the city. During your visit, you will enjoy the stunning colored-tiles roof and an extraordinary painting from the late Middle Ages that depicts the Last Judgement, by the Flemish artist Rogier van der Weyden.

Leaving l’Hôtel-Dieu, you will walk to la Maison Fallot to discover another of the specialties of Burgundy: the mustard. There, you will taste several kinds of mustards, such as the tarragon mustard or the blackcurrant mustard.

For lunch, your private guide will drive you to one of the villages of the Côte de Nuits, where you are going to eat in a typical Burgundian restaurant (not included in the price).

Then, it will be time to visit a winery in Nuits-Saint-Georges or in Vosne-Romanée, which are among the most prestigious red wine-producing villages in the world. Of course, the visit ends with a tasting.

Day 3
In the morning, you will leave the walls and the towers of Semur-en-Auxois in direction of another marvel of the medieval architecture: the Cistercian abbey of Fontenay. Visiting the church, the dormitory, the refectory, the cloister or the forge, you will be plunged into the heart of the life of these monks who, in the Middle Ages, elected this little valley as a place to stay, to work and to pray.

Following your way to the North of Burgundy, you will stop in the town of Chablis, famous for its white wine made of chardonnay.

After a lunch in a local restaurant (not included in the price), you will have a guided visit of a winery and its cellars with a last tasting before driving you back to Paris.

Tastings not included in the price.
