Canal de Nantes ŕ Brest, Vilaine, Blavet
Redon, at
the crossroads of the Vilaine and the Canal de Nantes a
Brest is your gateway to the legends of Merlin the wizard
and the fairy Viviane. You’ll pass the Isle of Magpies,
perfect setting for a fable. Next Gacilly with its
mossy lanes and eel-filled reedbeds so beautiful in the
morning light, then on to Josselin where the
castle’s mighty turrets are reflected in the canal.
Pause too at Malestroit to admire its half-timbered houses.
The Canal de Nantes a Brest is definitely amongst the
very top cruises. Inland Brittany with its vast
skies, its ancient granite villages, its blossom has always
been a magnet for artists. A second cruise to Rennes
cross the Breton Landscape with Hardly any locks.
Equally appealing, it will also allow you to discover
something of the buzz of a regional capital rich in history
and in monuments. Remember too that Brittany has a great
culinary tradition.
Chenille-Change, Chateauneuf, La Suze
Mayenne, Sarthe, Oudon
With Maine Anjou Rivieres.
Between the
Loire Valley and Brittany discover “Doulce France”,
where the rivers Mayenne, Sarthe and Oudon each boast their
particular magic. This is a land of Dukes and Princes, with
a wealth of chateaux, country houses and great
estates. You’ll find river ports, unusual museums, riding
stables, and dozens of villages to beguile you. Famous
for its wines (with no less than 28 appellations
controlees), Anjou is no less well known for its
cuisine, its picturesque inns and its local produce,
poultry, charcuterie, fish from the Loire, eels and other
delicacies.Chenillé-Changé, on the banks of the Mayenne, is
listed as a “village de charme” and has received a national
environmental Oscar as well as winning first prize in towns
in bloom competitions. Chateauneuf on the banks of
the Sarthe will put you in mind of the boat people who
sailed this river down the centuries.La
Suze-sur-Sarthe,
our one-way base for cruises to and from Chenillé-Changé,
is conveniently situated on the Sarthe just 19 km south of
Le Mans.
