Itinerary

Day 1, Saturday
Arrival at the ship between 12.00 and 14.00 PM, moored near Amsterdam Central Station. In the afternoon, you try your bike and make a tour north of Amsterdam.

Day 2, Sunday
Nice ride in the countryside, various landscapes, scenic cycling through bulb fields. You will cycle through the heart of the bulb fields. Exact route for today depends on which bulbs bloom. Today you will visit the Keukenhof, the very centre of the bulb fields, with a great variety of bulb flowers. You will have your lunch here and after the Keukenhof you’ll bike along biking paths and narrow roads. Several options and directions for a nice bike tour of ca. 45 km.

Day 3, Monday
A day in the green heart of Holland, following minor roads along winding waterways. In the morning, you are cycling along narrow waterways, in the midst of pastures. Destination today is Rotterdam, the main harbour of Holland. We moor at the Coolhaven (Cool harbour), walking distance from the centre. A (guided) walk in the evening is not to be missed. Biking distance 40-50 km.

Day 4, Tuesday
From Gouda, you will make a tour in the quiet world of the “polders”. Narrow roads and bike paths, hardly villages, beautiful houses, some farmsteads along the narrow roads and abundant waterfowl in the pastures and marshy areas. A few villages, polders and bridges and then you will arrive in Gouda, an ancient fortified city. The ship will be moored in the old harbour near town centre. Distance ca. 40/45 km.

Day 5, Wednesday
Today, we go from Willemstad to Zeeland (which actually means “Sealand”). You can start cycling in the morning or stay aboard for a ‘sailing breakfast’ as we will sail across the Hollands Diep to the locks of the Volkera . Here the cycling starts to our destiny of the day: Zierikzee. Another option is to stay on board till a small harbour near Bruinisse. Here you can join the other cyclists. Now you are on the Dutch “Zeeuwse” Islands, and visit Oude Tonge and Bruinisse, both fishing villages. Near the coast you can find the newly expanded Flood-museum, in a special housing: in 4 former caissons, big floating concrete boxes which were used to fill the gaps in the broken dykes! Biking distance ca. 55 or 25 km.

Day 6, Thursday
We’ll leave the land that has struggled so long against the force of the sea. Today, we head for the waterway Westerschelde, which is the main estuary connecting the port of Antwerp with the sea. We will leave the isles of Zeeland and cross the Westerschelde to the most southern part of Western Holland, Zeeuws Vlaanderen. But first you’ll do a nice tour along winding (inner)dykes with trees on top in a very scenic landscape. After crossing the Westerschelde by boat you either cycle or sail to the city of Gent. It had its economic peak later than Bruges. It has a cosy, thriving town centre with squares with interesting buildings, amongst which are the castle ‘Gravensteen’, churches and St. Baafs cathedral. We will moor in Gent. Of course an evening walk in town belongs to the possibilities. Biking Distance ca. 40- 45 km or even more for Km-lovers!

Day 7, Friday
Today, you cycle from one medieval city to another. You can stay aboard the Feniks and start biking from midway or cycle the whole trip. It’s worth while to make a visit the town centre before the ride to Bruges if you didn't have the time for that yesterday. Between the to towns you will cycle on quiet roads in the typical small scale fields pattern of Flanders with farmhouses en small villages. If you stay aboard part of the day the biking distance is around 35 Km. If you do the whole tour it’s ca. 60 km.

Day 8, Saturday
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye.
