On 23–24 April 1918, the Germans captured Villers-Bretonneux and advanced out of the town along the railway line westwards towards Amiens. That night, 24–25 April, six battalions of the AIF counter-attacked to the south and north of the cemetery, encircling Villers-Bretonneux, and retook the town. This famous action heralded the end of the German advance of March–April 1918 in the Somme area.

Discover the Somme battlefields with our guide and on the 25th April  join the official Anzac Day Dawn Service and the official Anzac Day Community Service.

Testimonials from previous ANZAC Day Tours

I am writing to congratulate you on the Anzac Day tour that you arranged. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the tour was very well guided. The accommodation was comfortable, and the meals were very good. RG

The tour was very well organised from pick-up point to return to Paris. Our guide was excellent and I'm sure we were given more information and saw more than if we had been with someone else. Worth every dollar!! M & E B
