The Amaryllis is the most luxurious barge whose interior displays an uncompromising attention to detail.  Each room has been meticulously decorated in a traditional style with a mixture of contemporary and antique Louis XVI and XV furniture, complemented by occasional tables from Li Puma of Florence. The top deck consists of a swimming pool and sun deck, salon and dining room and one state cabin. The lower deck consists of three state cabins. The boat is air conditioned throughout.


 

Amaryllis cruises through some of the most picturesque waterways in Burgundy and Franche Comté, including the River Saône, the Canal du Centre and Canal du Bourgogne.

Sample Itineraries

Itinerary 1- Dijon to Escommes

 Sunday – Paris to Dijon.
Depart Paris, Gare de Lyon, on the TGV train in the afternoon. On arrival at Dijon station you are met by your guide and transferred to the barge at Dijon’s Port du Canal for your cruise through Burgundy. Achampagne reception welcomes you and gives you a chance to meet the crew. A delicious dinner is served later that evening.

Monday - Cruise to Fleurey-sur-Ouche. Visit Clos de Vougeot.
Leaving Dijon, the canal follows the river Ouche where small-unspoiled villages and green, forested hills provide exceptional views from the deck. This afternoon’s excursion is a dégustation in Vougeot and a visit to “Clos de Vougeot”, a medieval château and the headquarters of the Chevaliers du Tastevin, whose special label is awarded annually to the finest Côte d’Or vintages. The barge moors for the night in Fleury-sur-Ouche.

Tuesday – Cruise to Gissey. Visit Dijon.
After breakfast, while the barge cruises to Gissey, your guide takes you on a walking tour of Dijon including a visit to the Ducal Palace, the market and the Grey Poupon mustard shop. Return to the boat for lunch and an afternoon’s cruise to the charming village of Gissey.

Wednesday - Cruise to La Bussière. Visit Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune
Mid-morning, disembark the boat for a visit to l’Abbaye de la Bussière, which was built in the 12th century under the guidance of the Cistercian monks from Citeaux. Enjoy a tour of the grounds and have lunch in the one Michelin star restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the 15thcentury Château de Savigny-lès-Baune set in its own vineyard and housing a huge collection of antique motorbikes, cars and planes.

Thursday – Cruise to Pont d’Ouche. Visit Beaune.
Relax with a morning cruise through the rolling hills of the Ouche Valley to Pont d’Ouche. After lunch visit Beaune, capital of the wine region of Burgundy and the famous Hôtel-Dieu, Hospice de Beaune. Sample some of the local wines before returning to the barge.

Friday - Cruise to Escommes. Visit Châteauneuf-en-Auxois.
Cruise to Escommes then after lunch visit Châteauneuf-en-Auxois. Both the village and the château have a long and interesting history. This is followed by a tour of the surrounding countryside. Farewell gala dinner on board.

Saturday – Dijon -Paris.
After breakfast disembark the barge and transfer to Dijon station. Board the TGV to Paris, Gare de Lyon, where you are met by our representative who will assist you with your luggage.
 

Itinerary 2: Dijon to Saint-Leger

 Sunday - Paris to Le Creusot and Digoin.
Depart Paris, Gare de Lyon, in the afternoon on the TGV train. On arrival at Le Creusot station you are met by your guide who transfers you to the barge at Digoin for your cruise through Burgundy. A champagne reception welcomes you and gives you the chance to meet the crew. Take a brief evening cruise across the Loire river on the canal bridge which connects the Canal du Centre to the Canal Latéral à la Loire.

Monday - Cruise to Paray-le-Monial. Visit La Clayette.
This morning, enjoy a leisurely cruise to Paray Le Monial. After lunch, drive through the countryside to La Clayette to visit the specialty chocolate shop of M. Bernard Dufoux. The master himself will demonstrate the art of making chocolate, followed by a private tasting. Car enthusiasts may tour the vintage car museum just around the corner where all the vehicles are for sale.

Tuesday - Tour Paray-le-Monial. Cruise to Genélard. Visit Cluny.
After breakfast, take a short walk to Paray-le-Monial, with its famous Basilica of the Sacré Coeur and site of pilgrimage since 1873. After lunch, visit Cluny, a little town dominated by its great benedictine abbey.

Wednesday – Visit Montceau les Mines. Cruise to Blanzy. Visit Autun.
This morning, take a short drive to the canal-side market at Montceau les Mines. Later, tour the city of Autun, founded by emperor Augustus and known as one of the leading cities of Roman Gaul. Visit the roman amphitheatre, one of the largest in France with a seating capacity of 17,000.

Thursday - Visit Château Marguerite de Bourgogne. Cruise to St. Julien-sur-Dheune.
Cruise to Montchanin, where you disembark for your trip to Couches. Enjoy lunch in the grounds of the Château Marguerite de Bourgogne and a private wine tasting in the secret passages beneath the chateau. Return to the barge for a late afternoon cruise to St. Julien-sur-Dheune, a small country mooring and a quiet place to walk or bicycle.

Friday - Cruise to St. Léger-sur-Dheune. Visit Beaune.
Today, tour the famous Cote d'Or, home of Burgundy's finest vineyards: Meursault, Puligny, Montrachet, Santenay. Later, visit Beaune, the capital of Burgundy for a tour of the famous 15th century Hôtel Dieu, Hospice de Beaune. Farewell gala dinner on board.

Saturday - Dijon-Paris.
After breakfast disembark the barge and and transfer to Dijon rail station. Return to Paris (Gare de Lyon) on the TGV where you are met by our representative who will assist you with your luggage.

Itinerary 3: Saint-Leger to Lyon

Sunday – Paris to Dijon.
Depart Paris, Gare de Lyon, on the TGV train. On arrival at Dijon station you are met by your guide and transferred to the barge at St. Léger for your cruise through Burgundy. A champagne reception welcomes you on board and gives you a chance to meet the crew. Later that evening, enjoy your first dining experience on board.

Monday - Cruise to Rully. Visit Couches.
While the barge cruises to Rully, a quaint village along the Canal du Centre, relax and enjoy the passing scenery. Visit Château Marguerite de Bourgogne in Couches, dating back to the 11th century, for a tour and wine tasting. In the afternoon, relax on board or walk or bicycle along the towpath and meet the barge further down the canal.

Tuesday - Cruise to Chalon-sur-Saône. Visit Beaune.
This morning the barge cruises the final section of the Canal du Centre before entering the last and very deep lock which takes you from the canal into the River Saône. The scenery changes from the close proximity of the canal banks to the expanse of this beautiful river. Drive to Lavernois for lunch at the famous Relais & Châteaux hotel. This afternoon’s visit is to Beaune, capital of the wine region of Burgundy. Enjoy a visit to the famous Hotel-Dieu, Hospice de Beaune followed by a private wine tasting at Domaine Joseph Drouhin’s wine cellar.

Wednesday – Visit Cluny. Cruise to Mâcon.
This morning the barge cruises towards Mâcon. After lunch visit the Abbey of Cluny, the centre of a major monastic reform movement in the Middle Ages and the largest church in the world for many centuries. Tonight’s mooring is Mâcon, a thrivingmarket town bordering both the Mâconnais and the Beaujolais vineyards.

Thursday - Cruise to Montmerle. Visit Beaujolais region.
Drive to the Roche de Solutré, a picturesque site with a superb view of Mâcon, the River Saône and the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards. Back on board for lunch followed by a tour of the Beaujolais region, known for its vineyards and gastronomy.Your guide has wine tasting on the agenda.

Friday - Cruise to Lyon. Visit Lyon.
Today’s visit is Lyon, a cultural, historic and gastronomic centre little known outside of France. Dominating the city is the splendidly ornate Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière. The standard of Lyon's shopping facilities is renowned for its quality and includes many chic boutiques. Farewell gala dinner on board.

Itinerary 4: Lyon to St Jean

Sunday- Lyon

Board the barge moored in Lyon for your cruise up the River Saône and through Burgundy.  A champagne reception welcomes you on board and gives you a chance to meet the crew.  Later this evening enjoy your first dining experience on board.

Monday - Visit Lyon. Cruise to Montmerle. 

Today's visit is to Lyon, the second city of France. Lyon is a cultural, historic, gastronomic, and commercial centre, little known outside of France. Dominating the city is the splendidly ornate Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière. The standard of Lyon's shopping facilities is renowned for its quality and includes many chic boutiques and a market hall devoted entirely to antiques.  There is free time for shopping or perhaps just sit in one of the numerous pavement cafés and simply watch the world go by.  After lunch relax on the top deck and watch the passing scenery of the river Saône.  Tonight we are moored in the town of Montmerle which is set in the heart of the Beaujolais wine region.

Tuesday - Cruise to Mâcon. Visit Roche de Solutré and Pouilly-Fuissé.

Cruise this morning to Mâcon.  Visit the Roche de Solutre, a picturesque site with a superb view of Mâcon, the River Saône and the vineyards.  Stop along the route to enjoy a wine tasting in the village of Fuissé, where the vines grow right up to the village walls.  The roads actually seem to get narrower, encroached by the vines planted as tightly as possible in every available space.  The mooring this evening is Mâcon, a thriving market town bordering both the Mâconnais and the Beaujolais vineyards. 
 
Wednesday - Cruise to Tournus.  Visit Abbey of Cluny.

After breakfast, relax on board and savour the beauty of Burgundy and Beaujolais as you cruise the River Saône to Tournus. The afternoon's visit is to the Benedictine Abbey of Cluny, for centuries the largest church in the world.  The abbey church is a masterpiece of Romanesque art whose influence spread throughout the western Christian world.  Our mooring this evening is in the pretty town of Tournus.

Thursday - Cruise Chalon-sur-Saône. Visit Beaune.

This morning we cruise to Chalon-sur-Saône before enjoying lunch at the famous Relais & Chateaux hotel in Levernois.  After a stroll around the grounds  In the afternoon your guide escorts you to Beaune, capital of the wine region of Burgundy, and a visit to the famous Hôtel-Dieu, Hospice de Beaune. You will have the chance to explore Joseph Drouhin's cellar, where the King of France and the Duke of Burgundy used to store some of their wines. TThe town itself has hardly changed in appearance throughout the years; it's tiny centre is a dense maze of narrow old streets with a circular boulevard running round it's former ramparts, many of which still stand.  Our mooring tonight is is  Chalon-sur-Saône, the last of the Burgundian style river towns, and one of the major cities of the Saône valley. 
 
Friday - Visit Châlon market and Dijon. Cruise to St. Jean de Losne.

This morning you may take a walking tour of the pedestrian area of Chalon-sur-Saône.  As it is market day you should enjoy the wonderful atmosphere in the cathedral square with stallholders busy selling their locally produced cheeses, pates and delicacies.   Continue the cruise ip the River Saône to St Jean de Losne. why not take a t ake a stroll over to the port and see the many working and pleasure barges. Back on board the chef is preparing a feast for your farewell dinner.

Saturday - Disembark.

After breakfast, disembark the barge for your onward travel arrangements.
